Here are some study questions to get you thinking about the paper that Kimberly will present on Tuesday. Please print out the paper and read at least twice – then answer the questions below and bring the to class as well.

Study Questions

What are the function and structural differences between 15-hLO and 12-hLO?

Do you think using homology models is a good idea? Why do the authors use them? What are the downsides? Is there evidence that they work?

How did they ‘test’ their docking algorithm?

In the first  ¶  of the Results section, why are the RMS values the way they are?  (0.67 A, 0.90 A, and 1.84 A)

What does selective inhibition mean?

What are the two ‘strengths’ that the paper is proud of?

How would you represent this paper through Interpretive Dance?

Labeling plasmid DNA stocks

After midiprep or maxiprep, you want to label your tubes of stock DNA well because you spent a lot of time and effort making it. Also, this DNA will be shared by the whole lab so it should be well labeled.

Label the top and side of tube – use the red sticky dots if necessary (the white squares are lame)

Put:      Initials, Date, type of DNA (pNIC-Bsa4, pGBR22, HSC0041026, etc. ), the concentration in λ ( lambda = micrograms/microliter )    OR  put the concentration  in nanograms/microliter. If it contains a gene inside of a vector – you should put the Gene name and the Vector name (e.g.     DHFR in pNIC-Bsa4)

Target Info

This thread can serve as a general location to ask questions about finding info on your targets.

If you have a link or resource that you have found beneficial in looking up info, you can share it here as a Comment. This will allow everyone to collaborate on how to get the info they need in the report. Also, see the Target Info Sites page to get started.

If your info is specific to a certain target, then Tag it with the target name (e.g. DHFR)
