Note: This is an open site. So, do not post personal information about yourself or others.

Instructions for making a new post:

  • Login
  • In your Dashboard at the top of the page >> My Blog >> New Post
  • http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/
  • Title your post appropriately
  • Select an existing category or leave blank for uncatergorized
  • Select a Tag if desired to  make it easier to search for your post – choose existing or make a new one
  • Publish your post

All posts will be can be sorted by date, so Tags and Categories are not crucial

Instructions for posting gel images from Word Documents:

  • First open Word document that has the image of your gel and the text annotations
  • Pull it up maximized on the screen
  • Do Print Screen on your keyboard
  • Go and open Microsoft Paint (under accessories)
  • do Paste or Ctrl+V to paste the image into Paint
  • crop it by dragging a box around only what you want
  • Do Copy or Ctrl+C to copy the region
  • Do File >> New to create a new image (JPG works fine)
  • Paste or Ctrl+V to put your copied region into a new file
  • Save as a .JPG with a semi-descriptive filename
  • Go to the WordPress site
  • create post
  • click on Upload/Insert image box
  • find the file that you saved of your gel and upload it
  • Make sure the caption has your initials and a title of what it is
  • This puts it in the Gallery
  • Now go back to the Upload/Insert image box and find the file in your Gallery
    Click on ‘Show’ at the right
    Change any setting you want
  • Don’t add description here – put it in the post instead.
    Then at the bottom click on ‘Insert into Post’
  • Then under Categories on the right, select the Catergory and Tags that you want
  • Then ‘Publish’
  • You can always go back and edit things if they need fixing up.

  1. Note that Categories are broad – they are defined by the Administrator. You are encouraged to associate your post with a category so that people can search for it better.

    Tags – however are more specific and anyone can define a new tag. This also makes for easy searching. These are optional.
